"What do you call it?" - Functions Lesson on Question Formation

Summary: This lesson address some common fossilized errors with question formation. Students will begin by brainstorming questions to ask you (or a fellow student) about a place you've lived or a favorite city, and will then review and refine their ability to form questions. Students will then play a lively "You're the expert!" game, in which they must respond to rapid-fire questions by pretending to be an expert on a random, silly topic.
Target language: functional phrases for asking questions, including: “What do you call…?” / “What’s … like?” / “How was ….?” / “How come…?” / “I wonder…”
