Living at Home PART 2 - Functional Language for Expressing Opinions

$7.99

Lesson Type: Functional Language for expressing opinions (& commenting on a news story)

Level: Upper-intermediate - Advanced

Lesson length: 60 - 90 minutes

This lesson is a continuation of Living at Home Part 1 (in which students watched a news story about Michael Rotondo and his parents to develop listening comprehension).

This lesson (Part 2) introduces phrases for expressing opinions on the story and invites students to use these expressions to write their own comments on the video and then debate statements about parents (or relatives) and young adults still living at home.

This material works best when it's taught in the next lesson after Part 1 (or in the second 90-min block of the same 3-hour lesson), so that the news story about the Rotondo family is still fresh in students' minds.

As with Part 1, the context is meant to be presented in a light-hearted manner so students feel comfortable sharing their own opinions about the subject.

*Because of the “leaving home” context, this lesson is not recommended for refugees or asylum seekers who may have a traumatic or complicated relationship with leaving home.
