Summary: Are you an early bird or a night owl? Do you prefer cats or dogs? Coffee or tea? In this lesson, students will practice asking about and expressing preferences and debating between two options. They will first read a short text about two friends debating the “early bird or night owl” question and then analyze and review helpful phrases for expressing their own preferences from there. They will practice using the expressions by having a lively "either/or" debate in which they try to convince their partner to agree with their choice.

Target language: functional phrases for asking & expressing preferences: which would you prefer; would you rather; I'd prefer; I'd rather; I choose; ...is better.
